Driving Change

We believe that long-term, sustainable change is preferable to and more effective than short-term intervention, and that positive outcomes are possible for children and youth from foster care when the conditions are in place that allow them to thrive and feel a sense of belonging.

Youth in Transition Peer to Peer Knowledge Exchange

Monthly sessions led by professionals from all sectors as a resource and information-sharing platform.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Shuah Roskies set up an informal network she called the Youth in Transition Peer-to-Peer Knowledge Exchange.  This initiative, first established online, brought together legal practitioners working in government, officials and social workers from across the relevant sectors. This method was in response to Shuah’s belief that all sectors need to collaborate with one another to identify key systemic issues and work together to address them ensure comprehensive support for youth transitioning out of the foster care system.

Foster Care Unraveled: Exclusive Screening, Panel, & Networking Night

We are so grateful to all who attended the screening of Foster (2018), and we hope it evoked deeper insights into the realities of foster care. It was truly inspiring to see such an engaging and passionate audience. The film’s stories and themes provided a first-hand look at the experiences of youth and families involved in child welfare, especially for those who do not directly work with these vulnerable populations.

Our panel discussion, moderated by our Chief Operating Officer Liora Sobel, featured Oscar-winning director Mark Jonathan Harris, Oscar-winning producer Deborah Oppenheimer, and social worker and advocate Jessica Chandler. Our guests explored the systemic barriers facing youth in and from foster care and shared actionable solutions to support them. The panel was enlightening and sparked meaningful discussions about long-term solutions and systemic change. The conversation left us all with a renewed sense of responsibility to continue educating ourselves and working toward a future where every youth has the care and resources they need to thrive.
